The DAIK project, initiated and directed by Hourig Sourouzian, aims to preserve important remains of the temple of Amenhotep III, which has been destroyed by an earthquake in antiquity, used as a quarry and abandoned. 27 years of salvage archaeology and the re-erection of monuments have considerably revived important parts of the temple and enriched our understanding of this reign. Since 2026, the project works as a joint cooperation between MoTA, DAIK, and JGU Mainz, with the mission director Kathrin Gabler, co-director Dietrich Raue.
